18th Century Gown

Description

Technically finished my gown! Sorry for the crappy picture, I took it real quick...

I'm probably going to make self-fabric sleeve flounces, and later make an embroidered lawn fichu and matching sleeve flounces, along with a hat. Hopefully at Dragon*Con I can get a picture with the hair and all done up :)

-edit- I should probably write about the dress, huh? I've deviated all the layers but they are as follows:

Chemise is made out of linen. The corset is fully boned with a silk outer fabric and cotton lining, with two layers of coutill in between. There is a cotton petticoat beneath, worn over pocket-hoops made with a heavy cotton and pieces of hoop steel. Over this is a yellow silk taffeta petticoat made from 4 yards of fabric and hand box-pleated and pinked trim at the hem.

The dress itself was made from 6 yards of apple-green striped silk taffeta. I started with a base bodice pattern from a book and had to adapt it to work with the stripes of the fabric (I basically repatterned the thing). The trim around the skirt front, neck, and sleeves is all roll-hemmed and pleated by me. The bodice is lined in cotton and closes down the front with hook & eyes, with a bone on either side of the opening.

-double edit-
Here's a better picture of this one with proper hair and background (but oops, left the glasses on!)
