Halloween 09- Sally

This is the Sally costume from Nightmare Before Christmas I made for my brother's girlfriend, Lexi. She did all the decorative stitching over the seams and I put together the dress.

I've been collecting fabrics to make one of these for myself for a couple years, but this costume was a "make it work" experience, put together with whatever fabrics we could find at the store, in my mother's and mine fabric stashes, and some dying and coloring, in a couple weeks. I tried to keep the colors muted to do justice to Sally's actual dress. There's wool, linen, raw silk, cotton, and a mystery fabric in there. The striped one is the reverse side of pillow ticking so the lines aren't so bold... the spotted, checked, and swirled one are made with marker, a few pieces are dyed unobnoxious pink and purple, and I even worked in a pocket right where Sally had one since she needed one for work. Didn't get as much done on the back, though, but the hair hides that anyway. She wasn't able to find a long red wig so she went with black. It was a fun practice run and she enjoyed it so I'm happy
