Padme Pleated Chemise

Description

I made this chemise as the first layer for the Padme gown I'm making. The gown in question appeared in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, but was cut from the final movie (It can be seen in the Special Features on the DVD. Here is a picture of the gown I am going to create: [link] )

I decided to make a chemise as a launderable barrier between me and this huge gown and is made of cotton lawn. The gown itself is of Tudor/Elizabethan influence, so I made the chemise with that in mind. It really was an experiment of different techniques I wanted to try. I pleated the body with the idea that it would control the bulk nicely underneath the corset. The design in the front I based off parts of the beading in the gown ( [link] ) as a way to pin down the pleating and control it, while allowing room in the chest. I used the shiny rayon embroidery floss (not fun to work with), twisting together purple with deep navy, and using my cording foot for the first time, stitched it down. In the back I did simple "v" chevrons in white to control the back, like the "v"s in the front of the skirt. I hand-pleated the collar and sleeve trim in 1/4" pleats and used the mock-blanket stitch on my sewing machine in a deep purple. I also used that stitch on the hem.

I know it is technically underwear, but this could work as a modern day dress I think. Wonderful work and attention to detail.
